Should Borders Be Open?:  a collection of views explored by the BBC. 

Mark Krikorian says:  "Borders are essential to nationhood. They are the line between "us" and "them". Without 'them' there can be no 'us', precluding the possibility of social solidarity."  And so human rights violations are justified.  To assuage our fear we are prepared to justify even death, if the death is of "them" and not "us". 

Takoma Park, Maryland declares itself an immigration sanctuary and encourages migrants to vote in local elections whether legal or illegal.  Mayor Kathy Porter has championed a city which refuses to cooperate with immigration and federal officials seeking to enforce immigration law.  Takoma Park stays immigration sanctuary.
